A classic is on the way again! The photo with the Chemnitz social welfare office free card is once again enraging people on social media. But what is it?

The following story will probably never disappear from Mimikama's minds, because it is a story about the free ticket "Social Office Chemnitz", which we have been reporting on regularly since 2016 and which originally contained an important trick, but over the years has been lost.

This is about the free card from the Chemnitz social welfare office, which claims that it gives you €200 credit for mobile phones including a SIM card, and that this is only valid for asylum seekers. So it's basically proof that all asylum seekers get free smartphones and always have the latest models with them.

However, this free ticket is a fake, that has to be made very clear. There is a longer explanation as to why this is a fake, in which you have to look at the original posting.

Let's look back to 2016. This is where the photo with the free card for the Chemnitz Social Office appeared for the first time. It angered many people at the time and was shared as proof that the state was actually financing cell phones for refugees.

The photo came with a small accompanying text, which is also included. Apparently this was taken on February 18, 2016 in Chemnitz. The problem with the current version of the image and the original version of the image is that some things have been removed from the original version.

Therefore, in this fact check we refer to the original version of the image from 2016 and refer to an existing detailed fact check on this topic from us HERE .

So what was this “trick”?

As already noted, the original version of the image was distributed using a trick. It was a so-called honeypot. The person who published this picture speculated that as many people as possible would distribute this picture and get extremely upset about it. By the way, this deceptive maneuver was quite a big deal at the time and made it into a variety of media, which you can still read about today ( compare ).

This plan also worked. What he did: He waited for well over 10,000 people to share the photo. And now comes the trick that you can only do on a private profile on Facebook. The person who published this photo simply swapped the photos.

So he clicked edit, uploaded a new photo and ended up simply deleting the old photo. So all the people who previously angrily distributed the first photo with the Chemnitz social welfare office free card have suddenly shared a completely different photo with a completely different message.
