Should women be fair game for refugees because they “also need love”? At least that’s what an “Antifa” poster is supposed to show. A photo of it is circulating on social media.

Has “Antifa” really overdone it and is actually demanding that refugees have a right to women and, if necessary, be allowed to commit crimes against women with impunity, as if they were fair game?

In one photo you can see a banner on which this demand appears. This demand is not only bizarre, but absurd and ultimately a fake because this photo has been edited.

Not only was the text “Women must remain fair game […] Refugees need love” added to the image later, but the words “In Satira by Uwe Ostertag” also appear at the bottom left.

By the way, Uwe Ostertag is a self-proclaimed internet troll who has often attracted attention with manipulated images in the past ( compare ).

Free wild? Fake!
Free wild? Fake!

Free wild? Origin of the image

Ostertag doesn't necessarily go out of his way to use his own pictures, but rather he uses the pictures of others. Like here, the photo comes in its unedited version from the photojournalist PM Cheung from Berlin.

The photo was taken in April 2017 and is titled “No space for the AfD! No room for right-wing agitation! – April 1, 2017 – Berlin – IMG_7958” and can be found online on Cheung’s Flickr account ( here ).

Photographer responded

Back in February 2018, photojournalist PM Cheung responded to the copyright infringement and manipulation. He wrote about it on Facebook

On our own behalf:
Here you have a wonderful example of how fake news is created and successfully spread.

1. You steal any picture from the internet (in this case, from me)

2. Then edit it with Microsoft Paint (IMPORTANT: PROFESSIONAL SKILLS are required!) and then add some inflammatory text to the image. That must be “popping” in people’s heads.

3. Then publish the picture on Facebook in the hope that some extremely stupid person will share it.

Et voilà, the fake news is ready and it has already been shared over 1,900 times. Running!

The “satirist” Uwe Ostertag is known for this type of memes. With the barely readable “In Satira Veritas” reference, he is apparently speculating that this will either be overlooked or ignored.
