The Bank Austria Future Talk on specific topics takes place at regular intervals. The current discussion revolves around the topic “Between fact and fake”.

Normally, the Bank Austria Future Talk takes place in front of a large audience, but due to Corona, the first online event of this format took place last Monday in a live stream. The panel of experts always talks about current topics. Mimikama is part of the conversation on the topic of “Between fact and fake”.

As a whole, the panel of experts consisted of the virologist and pharmaceutical consultant Christina Nicolodi, the media ethicist and private lecturer from the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences Michael Litschka and the press spokesman for the “Mimikama” association Andre Wolf. The round was moderated by Andreas Jäger, and Bank Austria CEO Robert Zadrazil joined the conversation.

In addition to the classic topics of whether information is true or false, the Future Talk discussion also includes questions about how much false reports influence medical research and people's behavior towards research. Key questions are:

  • Why do untruths spread so quickly?
  • Why are our opinions and perspectives so easily influenced?
  • What could be the economic and social consequences and how do they affect our society?

“Fake news” spreads rapidly on social networks and becomes a “viral” sensation that is difficult to stop. The topic of health and the associated controversial topic of vaccination - especially in relation to Covid-19 - represent a partial aspect here.

Andreas Jäger discusses these questions at the Future Talk with experts who deal with these topics from different perspectives. The recording of the Bank Austria Future Talk “Fact or Fake” can also be seen here:
