The goal of ensuring a gas storage level of at least 40 percent was far exceeded.

On February 1st, the German natural gas storage facilities were 78.6% full, almost twice as full as required by the Energy Industry Act on that date. The published value indicates the level on February 1st at 6 a.m. The law obliges gas storage operators to ensure that a filling level of at least 40% is reached in every facility on February 1st.

The President of the Federal Network Agency, Klaus Müller, is pleased:
“We have far exceeded the legal filling level target.
This is a great joint effort by everyone who uses gas economically,” he told the DPA. A gas shortage this winter has become unlikely.

Refill gas storage before winter

But we now have the task of refilling the storage facilities in the summer for next winter without Russian pipeline gas.

The filling levels in Germany have been falling overall since January 9th. The storage systems compensate for fluctuations in gas consumption and thus form a buffer system for the market. The levels usually decrease after the heating season begins in autumn. On the morning of November 14th, the level was 100%.
