What happened: A few days ago, the memorial tree for NSU murder victim Simsek was destroyed in Zwickau by sawing through the trunk ( see here ).

But not only the memorial tree, which was only planted on September 8th, was destroyed: the bench that was set up as a replacement was also damaged. The damage was done to the bank last weekend on the night from Saturday to Sunday ( see here ).

Accordingly, these two cases of vandalism were also in the media and attracted a certain amount of public interest. However, a guerrilla counter-action was launched this evening.

The hashtag #100für1 has been calling for people to plant memorial trees since 9 p.m. (October 7, 2019). The initiators, who call themselves the “Stay Behind Foundation”, describe this campaign as follows:

For every memorial you destroy, we create new ones. In memory of the NSU murder victims and all other victims of neo-Nazi terror.

Create places of remembrance for the victims of racist violence and let the memory grow.

A corresponding post was published on the group's Facebook page. This is:

On October 4th and 6th, 2019, two memorials - a tree and a bench - for the NSU murder victim Enver Şimşek were destroyed in Zwickau. Memorials were damaged with knowledge of their history and with the intention of re-victimizing the victims of racist violence and desecrating their memory.

Neo-Nazis think that they can murder people, destroy memorials and erase our memory of the victims of right-wing violence with impunity and unhindered.

WRONG THOUGHTS!

For every memorial that is destroyed, we create 100 new ones - with YOUR HELP!

We have planted our first tree - in the heart of Berlin - and would like you to do the same. You can find out how you can get involved here:

Stay Behind Foundation

The name of the group is not entirely unknown to us, and it already attracted attention with the petition “My teacher is crazy!” It was an online campaign that was directed against the AfD's teacher reporting platform ( we reported ).

The same group launched a very similar campaign in October 2018. At that time there was also a reporting point for teachers pointing out how dangerous these reporting points can be. We have reported on the topic accordingly (see here ).

The call to plant a memorial tree is a completely new campaign.
