The banknote trick is popular again - but does that mean it's real?

We received inquiries about a very old post, which was shared again this morning.
It's about warning against a money trick.
Criminals are supposed to stick a bank note under the windshield wiper and attack the victim as soon as they want to take the money. This is what the supposed warning looks like, which is shared again on Facebook:

Image in plain text:

Drivers should beware of car thieves' money trick.
And you think it's a gift.

The link leads to an article that has a story in which a mother is said to have fallen for this trick.
Of course without an official police report or other confirmed sources.
And not only that:

This story has been circulating in this or a similar form since 2013.

But!
It is a hoax.

Not just in Europe

And this fake is not only circulating in Europe, but there are also warnings about this supposed scam in America and Japan.
