Würzburg: On Monday, the Würzburg regional court postponed the hearing between Facebook and a Syrian refugee after he became a victim of fake news because of a Merkel selfie.

As the 'Tagesspiegel' reports, the negotiation between Facebook and Anas Modamani has now been postponed.

The young man had filed a request for an injunction that would force Facebook to delete the false posts that portrayed him as a terrorist.

Settle out of court?

According to 'Tagesspiegel', the court is concerned with the question of the extent to which Facebook itself has to take action to delete inadmissible content from its platform.

“Facebook announced that it would delete the images in question across Europe and would continue to examine all of the plaintiff’s reported images in the future,”

said one of the social network's lawyers in court.

If no out-of-court agreement is reached, the Würzburg Regional Court will announce its decision on March 7th.
