Copyright holders demand stricter URL management from the company

Internet giant Google says it has removed more than 2.5 billion search results for pages containing copyrighted material.

As the group states in its sustainability report, the current number represents around 90 percent of all deletion requests to the US company.

In addition to the new record number of links that cause copyright problems, there are 154 million duplicate links, 25 million invalid links and 80 million links that cannot be classified as copyright infringement.

Despite the record-breaking numbers, many rights holders are still not satisfied and are calling for stricter measures from Google.

The main problem is that many removed links appear under new URLs. The owners request that this unwanted content remains deleted.

To do this, the most notorious sites, such as “The Pirate Bay”, would have to be completely blocked by Google.

However, Google itself believes that such broad measures could lead to negative consequences, such as blocking legitimate URLs.
