The claim

It is claimed that Germany is being left alone by other EU countries in the current flood situation.

Our conclusion

This claim is false. Several EU countries, including France, offered help at the end of December 2023 and French aid workers were deployed in Lower Saxony at the beginning of January 2024.

In times of natural disasters such as the current flood in parts of Germany, rumors and misinformation often circulate about the willingness to help and solidarity of other countries. One such rumor says that Germany is not receiving any support from EU countries in this emergency situation.

This claim suggests a lack of solidarity within the European Union.

Evaluation

This representation is demonstrably false. In fact, several EU states, including France, have offered and provided assistance to Germany.

The facts

According to information from the German Press Agency (dpa) and the EU Commission, Germany officially requested EU disaster aid on December 30, 2023.

Six countries, namely France, the Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, Slovakia and Hungary, then offered help. Germany accepted France's offer. The EU Commission reported on January 3rd that 39 French helpers with 16 vehicles were already deployed in Lower Saxony. For example, on January 4th, the helpers built a mobile dike in the municipality of Winsen an der Aller.

Conclusion

The quick and effective response of the EU countries to Germany's request shows the functioning cooperation and solidarity within the European Union in the event of natural disasters. This example refutes the claim that Germany will be left alone by other EU countries in the event of a disaster.
