Illegal file download: The email from “RA Dr. Jan Wilmann” has it all. But different than you think!

It's been over a week since we last reported on Don't Be Phish. Today it's that time again, because the test email "Illegal file download" from the police training program is so good again that many of the recipients don't even notice it.

What happened? The police and the city of Cologne, as well as representatives of the Internet security industry, are currently offering an Internet security training course called “Don’t be a Phish.”

It works very simply: You register and receive well-crafted emails at irregular intervals that are nothing more than a security test. So what if…that “Illegal File Download” email came from a scammer? Because emails with malicious attachments can actually look like this:

Testmail Illegal file download
Testmail Illegal file download

At this point you're lucky, because the email with the subject “Illegal Download” is a test email from the security program.

Exciting!

Here, too, we could see that many people had the right nose and viewed the email skeptically. How do we recognize this? Well, this email appeared with the subject “Illegal file download” both in our community and in our email inquiries.
