The Berlin police recently had to deal with an illegal car race. So far, so bad. But your own reporting on this is tough!

At Mimikama we read a lot of press releases from authorities, companies and of course the police. Many of them are sober and dry, but the Berlin police have published a “social media version” of an illegal car race that took place in Berlin.

At this point, however, we are prematurely taking up a few words from the police epilogue: The stylistic device of this rather humorous description serves to read the report and also to understand what is happening there. The danger should not be downplayed, but rather attention should be drawn to the dangerous topic.

Illegal car racing: The slightly different press report

The Berlin police write on Facebook :

The case behind the two photos can also be briefly summarized: In illegal car races like this, the car is used as a means of crime and is therefore confiscated by the police to preserve evidence.
⠀⠀⠀
For those who like it in more detail, here is the long version based on the current status of the investigation and for reference:
⠀⠀⠀
The initial situation was not unusual for our section 25 patrol when they stopped at a red light in a single-lane side street City West was waiting behind three cars for the green light. Apparently all three drivers were so focused on the traffic lights that they didn't notice our blue and silver patrol car. When the traffic light went from red to yellow to green, the case really picked up speed in the form of all three cars.

???? The field of participants ????

Car 1:
A black Mercedes claimed the lead from pole position right from the start with a burnout and squealing tires, turned left without signaling, and then accelerated strongly again immediately after the turn.

Car 2:
A white BMW sat directly behind the quick starter, but accelerated so much when turning that it was able to pass the previous leader on the left and take the lead. Did he blink? No!

Car 3:
A black BMW had a worse starting situation. He started in third place, with the police right behind him. What's even more surprising is that he took the full risk, made the same turn and also accelerated hard.

Car 4:
A blue and silver Opel with a reflective “POLIZEI” inscription and a flashing light system on the roof decided to take a closer look and gave chase.
⠀⠀⠀
???? The route ????

We went along Hardenbergstrasse at a rapid pace towards Ernst-Reuter-Platz.
This traffic junction, known in police parlance as “ERPL” and pronounced “Erpel”, is a 3-lane roundabout with 5 entrances, 5 exits and, at least during the day, 5 traffic lights. On its green central island there are two fountains, whose water features throw fountains up to two meters into the air. Here one or two cars had to be fished out of the central island. ⠀⠀⠀
⚡️ The course of the race ⚡️

Car 3 dropped back after just a few meters and normalized its speed back to a widespread altitude.
The other two were neck and neck. They drove into the roundabout at almost 100 km/h without braking, without considering other cars that had the right of way and, above all, other road users. A white van had to brake sharply to avoid a collision. The blue and silver patrol car now pulled out all the stops, mutated into a kind of “safety car” and, with its all-round lights, not only set accents in the race in terms of color. Meanwhile, when we arrived on the Straße des 17. Juni, two sudden braking maneuvers occurred. The life-threatening race was voluntarily ended early, which enabled our patrol team to carry out safe inspections. ⠀⠀⠀
❗️The result❗️

The drivers (20 and 18 years old) both only had their driving licenses for a short time.
The emphasis here should be on the past tense, because the driver's license was also confiscated along with the cars. A court will now decide everything else.
⠀⠀⠀
⚠️ Epilogue ⚠️

Since there have already been various cases in Berlin that have had a tragic outcome, in this case humor was deliberately used as a stylistic device in order to increase the willingness to read through and, in particular, to get our young community to think.
It must be clear to all of us that on the night in question all the guardian angels must have worked double shifts. Please share the post so that others can read it too.
Many greetings from the Berlin Police Social Media Team
