Dortmund – Late on Saturday evening (July 22nd), two drivers engaged in an illegal street race on Dorstfelder Allee. After several dangerous maneuvers, a VW Golf crashed into a noise barrier.

According to initial investigations, two cars were driving south along Dorstfelder Allee at around 10:20 p.m. at high speed. It was no surprise that there was a bang a short time later. Witnesses reported a race in the two parallel southbound lanes. Even when the road narrowed to one lane, the driver of a VW remained next to his opponent and thus became a wrong-way driver. After the next traffic light - at least they stopped there - they both continued their race.

The cars raced further south along the now two-lane Dorstfelder Allee. It is not yet known what the driver of the VW was thinking shortly before the Kortental junction. However, it wasn't a stroke of genius to drive along the sidewalk of a pedestrian island and then crash into a noise barrier a few meters further, almost without braking. The seriously injured driver's reaction: get out and run away. He didn't get far; an attentive witness held the staggering man until the police arrived.

An ambulance drove the 28-year-old from Dortmund to a nearby hospital. In addition to the daring drive, the man showed signs of failure that suggested alcohol and drug consumption. Blood samples were taken from the 28-year-old and his driver's license was confiscated.

However, there is still no trace of the second speeder. According to witness statements, it was a silver Seat with the city code LÜN.

Witnesses are asked to contact the Huckarde police station on 0231-132/2121.
