“A 45 to 50-year-old, very corpulent man with short, black hair approached a six-year-old child from a white sprinter with the sign of a car dealership. The man told the child that his friends were in the car with him and were eating sweets, so the boy should get in. The man then tried to pull the child into the vehicle by his jacket, whereupon the boy screamed loudly for his mother,” according to the post. “The man then drove away with squealing tires.”

It's this post that's making the rounds online:

The child's mother reported the matter to the police.

Police officers then visited the vehicle owner at his home address in Hameln. It was only possible to communicate with him through an interpreter because the man does not speak German. He told the officers that he had wanted to collect scrap metal in his van on Monday, among other things in the Groß Berkel area, so he confirmed that he had driven the vehicle.

The police officers conducted a so-called threat approach. An acute risk situation for children and young people is not currently seen.

Nevertheless, the police always take such information seriously and continue to try to shed light on the matter with everyone involved. The Bad Pyrmont police (Tel.: 05281/9406-0) are therefore looking for independent witnesses who can provide relevant information about the facts described on September 26th, 2022, around 5 p.m., on Im Flöth Street.

After the article was published, a photo of the white van including the license plate was published, which subsequently led to the Hamelin resident being the victim of damage to his vehicle last night. The man filed a criminal complaint. This kind of prejudgment is absolutely unacceptable. Better trust the work of your police.

The car dealership, as the previous owner of the van, has no connection with the incident described.

The post is now also being shared in school and kindergarten chats, which is causing considerable uncertainty among parents and their children.

The police ask you not to publish facts with such explosive content on your own initiative.

The correct and only way is to forward information to the police. The schools or, for example, the trusted teachers can also be informed first about events that arise in the school context.

Under no circumstances should such posts from private chats be shared. Please only follow and share trustworthy publications from the Hameln-Pyrmont/Holzminden police station on the official channels.
