Have you been tagged on Instagram because you won an iPhone 13? Warning: FAKE!

A notification on Instagram that you have been mentioned in a post by a user you do not know.
The text says you won an iPhone 13. To do this you should click on a link. The link leads to another Instagram account in which the link to the supposed competition is listed.

The usual process of a fake competition

So let's see what happens when you click on this link.
Please don't try this yourself!
On the page you reach, you will immediately receive congratulations.
You would have the chance to win one of only 70 iPhone 13s. To do this you first have to answer three simple questions. You then have three chances to get the right one within nine packages to win an iPhone (and of course you ALWAYS get the “winning package”). Congratulations again.
However, you have to pay the delivery costs yourself. To do this, you have to provide your details (name, telephone number and email address) and of course your credit card details. If you scroll all the way down the page, you can read that the next drawing will not take place until December 31, 2022.
You can assume that this will never happen. It is also stated here that you are joining a service from “a partner”, although this is not explained in more detail here. It is also not mentioned which service it is. First a 3-day test phase starts, which is then converted into a subscription. The costs for this will be deducted from the credit card.

How do you recognize a fraudulent competition?

  • There is no well-known company behind the competition.
  • There is no imprint.
  • The link changes frequently during the process, so you always get to different pages.
  • The link is classified as unsafe on the smartphone - recognizable by a call sign next to the URL.
  • The comments under the supposed competition are fake. This can also be seen in the fact that you cannot write a comment yourself, nor can you respond to the existing comments with “Like”.
  • Some of the texts are poorly or incorrectly translated.
  • You should stop at the latest when you have to enter your credit card details or download an app.

Conclusion

There is no iPhone 13 to be won here.
Only the operators of the alleged competition will win here.
Namely: data and also money. You will then be “rewarded” with advertising emails, spam calls or even subscriptions that you did not want to take out. Stay away from competitions to which you are essentially “invited”!
