A lot of users on Instagram were annoyed in 2019: they received invitations to dubious sex groups almost every day.

Invitations to sex groups on Instagram: The profile picture mostly shows scantily clad, young women - often in explicit poses. So-called sex bots are intended to attract as many social media users as possible to websites that often contain pornographic content, collect data or even send viruses.

As VOL.AT reports, those behind such invitations often try a link that the user should click on. Through this, hackers could try to make money by collecting email addresses and data and selling them for advertising purposes. Entire organizations from abroad often hide behind such invitations and then secure data in the background.

Cybercrime expert Harald Longhi warns that many users still think “clicking doesn’t cost anything”. But unfortunately that's not true:

“Even if you don’t always suffer immediate financial damage, it definitely costs your privacy.”

Particularly tricky: It is not uncommon for users to become unwitting accomplices when child pornography content is shared in such groups. Report these groups to the police immediately!

“Unfortunately, the problem has been known for a long time, it is a large and growing one,”

said Martin Steiger, lawyer for law and digital space, to FM1Today .

However, Instagram appears helpless. Even users who have set their profile to private sometimes receive these invitations. Reporting fake profiles and inquiries is often difficult. Instagram needs to improve its spam filter without deleting legitimate accounts.

It is not yet clear why Instagram users in particular are being bombarded so much at the moment. Steiger points out that these invitations come in waves and usually only certain areas of de. Affect social media platforms – for example through hashtags or country information.

So far, there is no concrete way to stay safe from such news.

Tips:

Avoid relevant hashtags and hide words that often appear in such messages (Settings - Privacy - Comments). However, these are “only” hidden and not blocked.

Block senders of such invitations and report them to Instagram. At least the same bot cannot strike multiple times.

Note: Despite these precautions, you may still receive such invitations. As already mentioned, there are currently no concrete ways to actually be spared from this news.

User tip:

“Reporting is actually enough, then the person is automatically blocked and, when you go back to the arrow, you are asked whether you want to leave the group on Instagram.”

Conclusion:

Even if the girls shown look very nice, anyone who receives such an invitation to a group should think twice about whether it is worth clicking. These are mostly generated bots that want to attract users to a website.

However, not only advertising, data collectors or viruses could be lurking behind the link, but also pornographic and, in the worst case, child pornography content.

For this reason:

  • block sender,
  • report to Instagram and also one
  • Consider reporting these “sex groups” to the police!
