Gas and electricity price brakes, countless price increases, changes in the level of VAT and much more will make energy bills a real challenge for consumers in the coming months and years. The Brandenburg Consumer Center (VZB) recommends noting the meter readings at the turn of the year.

The energy crisis demands a lot from consumers. The rising prices are putting a strain on households, gas and electricity price caps raise many questions and the relief packages are not easy to understand. The Brandenburg consumer advice center has been receiving numerous inquiries about energy law for months. There is a great need for explanation.

At the turn of the year, the VZB recommends that consumers record their gas and electricity meter readings.

“Since some innovations will take effect in the new year, meter readings can be helpful, for example for later checking the expected energy bills,” says Rico Dulinski, legal expert at the Brandenburg Consumer Center. The documentation should initially be for personal use. “An unsolicited message to the energy supplier is currently not necessary,” says Dulinski.
