The Wuppertal-Ronsdorf correctional facility is missing 1,000 rounds of ammunition. The Wuppertal public prosecutor's office confirmed this to WDR . She has been investigating unknown persons in this case for three months.
The public prosecutor's office has now ruled out the possibility that the ammunition was left behind during target practice or that there was simply a counting error by the armory. It is now being checked who had access to the armory and whether there were any discrepancies or errors in checking the ammunition.
The Wuppertal public prosecutor Wolf-Tilman Baumert:
„We are investigating in all directions and trying to narrow down who is involved and cannot rule out the possibility that prison staff are also involved.“
The stolen ammunition was the standard 9mm Parabellum caliber, which is also used by the police.
The prison in Wuppertal-Ronsdorf has repeatedly made negative headlines in the past. Especially because several prisoners have committed suicide there in recent years - most recently two months ago.
