Alexander Hold's candidacy is on everyone's lips at the moment, we've been asked about it so we're clarifying it.

He has done a lot on TV, he was a television judge for many years and decided on re-enacted cases. At the WOK World Championships he slid through the ice track and hurled through the hall at the stock car race.

He fought a few sporting duels with Stefan Raab and Joey Kelly; we are talking about the studied lawyer and judge Alexander Hold. He was not only the judge on TV, he was also at the regional court and the district court in Kempten.

In 2008 he was elected to the city council in Kempten on the list of free voters. He has been parliamentary group leader there since 2014, and in 2013 he entered the Swabian district council for the Free Voters.

Those same Free Voters have now chosen him as their candidate for the office of Federal President, but is that even possible?

Art. 54 GG

In short – yes, it works.

Long version:

For the long, or longer, version, we only need Article 54 of the Basic Law and only paragraph 1, which reads.

Article 54

  • The Federal President is elected by the Federal Assembly without debate. Any German who has the right to vote in the Bundestag and who has reached the age of forty can be elected.

Here are the conditions under which you can be elected Federal President:

“Any German (a) who has the right to vote in the Bundestag (b) and who has reached the age of forty (c) is eligible to be elected.” I was so free and inserted (a), (b) and (c), which indicate the exact requirements for a candidate for the office of Federal President. So let's just put these requirements on Alexander Hold's profile.

  • Every German – Alexander Hold was born on March 11, 1962 in Kempten and is a German citizen
  • Right to vote in the Bundestag - Alexander Hold is of legal age and particularly important, he is fully legally competent, he is not incapacitated, so he is fully eligible to vote in the Bundestag election
  • Turned forty - as mentioned, Alexander Hold was born on March 11, 1962, so he is 54 years old, old enough to vote.

All three requirements for a candidate, which are stipulated by Article 54 Paragraph 1 GG, are met by Alexander Hold; he therefore fits into the prey scheme of Article 54 Paragraph 1 GG and can stand as a candidate for election.
