Kassel - Early on Tuesday morning, a previously unknown perpetrator stole a smartphone worth around 700 euros in the Fasanenhof district of Kassel.

The unknown man achieved this with a simple trick: he spoke to his victim on the street and asked what time it was. After she willingly took out her cell phone to read the time, the thief grabbed the smartphone and fled the scene.

According to the officers from the Mitte police station who were deployed to the crime scene, the theft occurred around 3:40 a.m. At that time, the 20-year-old victim was walking on Simmershäuser Straße. In the area of a green area near Mühlhäuser Platz, the stranger finally spoke to him and wanted to know the time.

The 20-year-old helpfully took out his Huawei Mate 9 cell phone and read the time. The unknown man ripped the smartphone out of his hand and fled. The victim was then unable to follow the perpetrator.

The 20-year-old described the perpetrator as follows:

  • Man with North African appearance
  • short, slightly curly black hair
  • approx. 1.80 meters tall
  • about 20 to 30 years old
  • slim stature
  • dark hoodie
  • dark pants

The officers from the Northern Police Department's investigation group who are entrusted with further processing are now asking witnesses who have made suspicious observations and can provide information about the perpetrator to contact the Kassel police on 0561 - 9100.
