The claim
In one video, a small pile of cocaine can be seen on Zelensky's desk
Our conclusion
The video has been manipulated. There is no cocaine in the original video, which has been online since March.
Only recently it was claimed that a line could be seen in a video published by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ( we reported ), now another video is making the rounds on pro-Russian accounts on social networks:
Zelensky was shot during a Zoom call filmed - and a small pile of cocaine could clearly be seen on his desk.
But the video was manipulated.
The distributed video
In the video, Volodymyr Zelenskyj can be seen at his desk, with a Zoom call taking place on his laptop. As the camera zooms in on the laptop, what appears to be a small pile of the drug can be seen on the desk to the left.
see the video :
No cocaine in the original video
Logic should already intervene: the smartphone and the papers on the desk are subsequently blurred out in a video, but the pile is left visible? In addition, the distributed video is noticeably “jerky”, which also indicates a possible, rather quick post-production.
And the video is actually manipulated, as Eliot Higgins, founder of the research platform Bellingcat , beautifully in a tweet :
has been on YouTube since March
Conclusion
Pro-Russian accounts repeatedly try to portray Zelensky as addicted to cocaine. In an interview, he even reportedly admitted to using the drug regularly, saying that cocaine was “the best energizer for humans.” This video was also manipulated ; it was a compilation of several passages from the interview in which he rejected cocaine but emphasized that he was addicted to coffee.
And the video above is just another attempt to "prove" Zelensky's drug use through brazen video manipulation - instead, it is further evidence of the lack of credibility of such accounts.
