This chain letter is about the emergency numbers given, which are not correct for German-speaking countries. The phone number “ 144 ” is given for “ animals in need to rescue in Austria and Switzerland . Or the “ 112 ” for “ Domestic Violence ” is not correct either, because it is assigned to the “ Fire and Rescue Services ” and applies throughout Europe .

The chain letter as wording:

Can I please ask 2 friends (among the many wonderful people on my list) to COPY and paste.
#suicideawareness Call 113
#domestic violence Call 112 or 0800-2000
#Child in danger Call 112 or 0800-2000
#Animal in need Call 144
Only two.
It doesn't matter which one. Say it's done. It doesn't cost anything and helps many people🙂❤️

This chain letter is shared again and again, without even checking whether the content is correct.
Well-intentioned is not always well-done : Of course it is well-intentioned when you share something like this, but it makes no sense if the content, in this case the phone numbers, is not correct for German-speaking countries.

Where does the content and the associated phone numbers come from?

These numbers actually come from the NETHERLANDS. Since the content is shared again and again on Facebook, it is automatically translated by Facebook and it is then likely to have been copied and forwarded 1:1.

The original text was:

I may also have 2 friends (on the very good food in my room) before copying and printing.
#zelfmoordbewustzijn bel 113
#huiselijkgeweld bel 112 of 0800-2000
#kindingevaar Bel 112 of 0800-2000
#dierinnood Bel 144
Twee maar.
It never wilts. Zeg gedaan..
It doesn't help much🙂

What are the correct telephone numbers for German-speaking countries?

Since there are different contact points for different concerns and crises, we have collected them and are happy to make them available here.

In Germany

In Austria

In Switzerland

Conclusion: Even if sharing this information is well-intentioned, you should always pay attention to whether the telephone numbers provided are correct. In this case all telephone numbers come from the NETHERLANDS. So it makes no sense to share these in Germany, Austria or Switzerland.

So if you want to share a chain letter in this form, please use the correct emergency numbers!

You are welcome to copy and share our pictures here. We have created one for each country and one containing all crisis telephone numbers. Just click/tap, copy and share.
