Essen – 45481 MH- Selbeck: A Porsche and probably the proximity to the federal motorways (BAB) attracted professional car thieves to Mülheim an der Ruhr on November 22, 2016.

POL-E: Mülheim an der Ruhr: "Keyless-Go-System" attracts car thieves - Photos and video - Internationally active perpetrators recorded by surveillance camera - High-quality vehicle in the focus of gangs

At 4:38 a.m., a private camera filmed a young man moving suspiciously in front of a private house in Mülheim-Selbeck on Wedauer Straße. Specialists from the Burglary Inspectorate in Essen were quickly able to explain the stranger's motives.

Apparently the man was carrying a so-called “radio link extender” that establishes an electronic connection to “keyless go vehicle keys”.

The focus of this gang was a Porsche SUV (off-road vehicle) that was parked in front of the house. Owners often leave their car keys in the hallway at home, where they can then easily be read by the technically skilled perpetrators.

Conclusion: The mostly high-priced vehicles disappear without a trace, often towards Eastern Europe, sometimes also towards the North Sea coast.

In this case, one of the perpetrators, who usually operate in groups, was recorded by the security system. Since the organized gangs operate internationally and are certainly not known in rural MH-Selbeck, the responsible Essen investigator is hoping for information from the population.

The Essen police will also conduct the search in their extensive social networks, which will be followed nationwide. In doing so, she hopes to receive clues from outside that will lead to the identification of the unknown person.

Information can be received at the central number of the Essen Police Headquarters 0201-8290.
