There are currently reports circulating on social networks about the kidnapping of an 8-year-old girl. Users share links with almost identical wording, but different photos of the supposedly kidnapped children.
Evaluation of the reports
These are false reports. At least one of the photos was generated using artificial intelligence (AI), and there is no evidence of real kidnapping cases.
Reviewing photos of alleged kidnappings
A Google reverse image search leads to “ Generated Photos ,” a website that creates AI-generated images. The picture of a blonde girl with blue eyes from one of the reports can be found there. The second photo is similar in style to the first and was probably also created with AI.
Analysis of the linked content
The links contained in the posts lead to incorrect or fake pages, including an imitated Facebook page for “Bild”. The content and pixelated screenshots of a video there are part of a scam to obtain personal data.
Clarification of the background of the video
According to Polish media reports and a press release from the Polish police, the mugshots a man who was linked to an attempted child abduction in Poznań in 2016. The crime involved a 4-year-old boy, not an 8-year-old girl.
Conclusion: Misleading and false information
The widespread reports of kidnappings are not authentic. They are based on AI-generated images and misleading links that are part of a deception. The actual incident in Poland is seven years old and has no connection to the current hoaxes. It is important to critically question such information and check its credibility.
