If you believe the email and click on “Continue to PayPal”, a website will open that looks exactly like PayPal itself!

If you enter your email address and the corresponding PayPal password here, you will be putting this data directly into the hands of the fraudsters and they would immediately have full access to the respective PayPal account!

But not only that!

In the next step, personal data such as full name, date of birth, address, zip code and telephone number are requested! With this data, identity fraud would now be possible!

How can I protect myself?

PayPal itself gives the following tips.

To make it easier to spot fraudulent emails or websites:

• Are you addressed as “Dear PayPal customer” or “Hello, PayPal user!”?

This email is not from us. We always address you using the full first and last name provided to us. Or: If you have a business account with us, then also with the business name.

• The email contains a file attachment?

This email is not from us. We will not send you emails with file attachments. You should generally be extremely careful with these emails, as Trojans or viruses tend to hide here. It's best to put it straight in the trash.

• You have to reply to the email urgently because your PayPal account is in danger, but you don't see any notice in your PayPal account?

This email is not from us. If you need to take action, you will see this directly on the account overview page when you log in to your PayPal account. If there is no note there, then we do not need any information from you.

• Are you asked to enter your full name, bank details, credit card number or password?

• Report scam emails to us!

3. Delete the fraudulent email from your inbox.
