In recent days, an increasing number of emails containing appointment invitations with attached calendar files have been sent. The criminal police suspect that there is a new phishing variant behind this.

When phishing, the perpetrators target personal data such as passwords and login details. Apparently the senders' email accounts have previously been manipulated by malware and are sending these appointment invitations to email addresses known in the account. Therefore, you may actually know the sender address of these emails and therefore appear trustworthy.

The police advise:

  • Do not open such an email or the attached files and delete the email.
  • Please let friends know if you receive suspicious emails from them.
  • Use antivirus software that scans incoming and outgoing e-mails.
