Faßberg - Today, Wednesday, May 10, 2017, employees of the wastewater association found a dead infant while cleaning a shaft in a pumping station around 8:30 a.m. and alerted the police.

The officers deployed found a badly decomposed female corpse. Initial police investigations have not yet provided any information as to when and how the infant got into the shaft.

After the autopsy carried out by the forensic doctor in the afternoon, the cause of death could not be conclusively determined. Further forensic medical investigations into this are ongoing.

The public prosecutor's office in Celle has initiated an investigation into the initial suspicion of manslaughter against unknown persons.

The police are now looking for the mother of the dead baby because it cannot be ruled out that she needs medical attention or is in a helpless situation.

The public is therefore asked to give information to the Celle police on 05141-277 215.

Of particular interest is whether someone from Faßberg or the districts of Celle, Uelzen and Heidekreis can report something about a pregnancy in their personal environment that was terminated prematurely under previously unknown circumstances.
