On Wednesday, November 25, 2020, the federal police in Freiburg became aware of a suspected case of “romance scamming”. A 72-year-old Swiss citizen was contacted by a man on social media. Over time, the alleged American is said to have gained her trust and promised her a very large amount of money.

In order to receive this, however, a fee would first have to be paid. The handover of the money for the fee should take place at Freiburg main station. Fortunately, the injured party informed a friend about the planned handover of the money. Since he suspected a romance scam, he informed the police.
