Public search for fugitive millionaire fraudster opened - investigators from the North Rhine-Westphalia State Criminal Police Office are searching worldwide for Dr. Ruja IGNATOVA, born May 30, 1980 in Russe (Bulgaria)

The investigation conducted by the Bielefeld public prosecutor's office is directed against the German national Dr. Ruja Ignatova, born May 30, 1980 in Ruse (Bulgaria), for particularly serious cases of joint fraud and for money laundering.

The wanted person is suspected of being the driving force and intellectual inventor of the supposed cryptocurrency “OneCoin”, which caused investors worldwide to invest in this actually worthless “currency”. In this respect, investors were deceived about the technical background of the so-called “mining”.

The supposed, ultimately constantly increasing value of the “OneCoin” was under the responsibility of the accused Dr. Ignatova internally and was not based on market mechanisms. The fraud damage determined so far in the proceedings is just over 88 million euros. The damage caused worldwide is likely to be significantly higher.

The accused has been in hiding since October 2017 and her whereabouts are unknown. Because of her actions, she is likely to have considerable financial resources and supporters and contacts worldwide.

In addition to the existing national and European arrest warrants, the global public search for the fugitive is now being opened.

The focus is on a search involving all 194 INTERPOL member states. The Interpol search for Dr. Ruja Ignatova is shared on social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) in 194 countries.

In addition, the manhunt will be published internationally on the EUROPOL website “Europe's Most Wanted Fugitives” ( https://eumostwanted.eu/de ).

A public search call is being made today (May 11th) on the ZDF television program “Aktenzeichen XY… unsolved” and via the Facebook and Twitter accounts of the Federal Criminal Police Office.
