A dangerous PayPal phishing email claims “Action required for your PayPal account”. The message is in PayPal design and suggests that a gambling transaction has been held up and your account has therefore been restricted. Don't believe this and don't give out any data! People are trying to steal your PayPal login details and your credit card details!

You may also receive what appears to be a PayPal email shortly. If you don't use PayPal, you know the message is fake. However, if you use PayPal, the message may seem genuine at first glance. You are led to believe that you have to take action and follow a link to reactivate your PayPal account:

From: Pay Pal
Subject: Action required for your PayPal account.

(PPL-AT-149601547) We have received a request to deposit at an online gambling store using your card linked to your PayPal account.
Therefore, we had to pause the transaction request for 48 hours after that, PayPal will confirm the transaction.
If you are the owner of this transaction request, do nothing and ignore this message.
If not, follow these steps to cancel the transaction request and return it immediately
Important Note: PayPal will send an automatic message with a code to your phone number to complete the refund request.
You must enter the cancellation code that PayPal sends to you to complete your refund request to edit.
If you would like to refund and cancel this payment, please click the link below.

Attention: Do not follow links!

As with all phishing messages, do not follow the link at the end of the message. It leads you to a scam site under false pretenses. You can best recognize this by the web address that your browser shows you at the top of the screen:

Under no circumstances are you allowed to enter your PayPal login details on this page. Otherwise these will end up directly with the criminals behind the email. Anyone who provides the data must then enter further personal data:

Entering the data means that in the next step you will be asked to provide a TAN, which will be sent to your mobile phone. Attention: This triggers a payment and there is usually no possibility of the amount being reversed.

Watchlist Internet has summarized in detail how you can protect yourself from phishing attempts .

Have you announced your details?

If you have already entered your details on the fraudulent websites, then you have no choice but to immediately change your PayPal password and contact your bank about your credit card. If funds have been debited, try to have them recovered through your bank.

If you experience financial damage that cannot be reversed, we must advise you to report it to the police.
