Not every profile on Facebook is real! On the contrary: many millions of profiles on social networks are so-called social bots, which work manipulatively. Unfortunately, they are often not recognizable as bots.

A NOTICE! There is a further and more in-depth analysis on this topic. You can read this HERE .

The watch page “ We're watching you ” found more than 21 groups on Facebook that have striking similarities in the administrator positions [ 3 ], as well as identical behavior when posting Facebook messages [ 4 ]. A striking pattern becomes clear here: the profile pictures show pretty, self-confident, but also powerful women. If you look at the names of the administrators of the published list of “We're watching you” [ 3 ], you can see various, recurring profiles that are decorated with feminine and self-confident images.

Telltale: these images of the bot profiles can also be found in Google results elsewhere on the internet. The reason: this profile cannot have a face at all, because social bots are not people, but programs that act like an account, even like a person, in social networks. You think you're writing in the comment columns with a person or are friends with a person, but that's not the case here.

Bots or fake profiles?

Bots are increasingly being used politically, although bots are often used for economic purposes on dating platforms or in review columns. Spicy at this point: the profiles uncovered by the watch site “We're watching you” are highly political and operate over 20 Facebook groups with several thousand members. In addition, the individual profiles themselves also have several thousand friends.

The danger

We recently warned: Bots are distorting reality due to their massive occurrence! In the end, the behavior of bots can not only lead to people being manipulated, but also disrupt all communication in networks, so that many people remove themselves from the discussion, no longer participate and thus fall silent. This potential result would not only be anti-democratic, but also a form of “silencing” (immobilizing opposing positions).
