Be careful – fraudsters manipulate ATMs in Bochum. Don't be alarmed if the machine doesn't spit out any money.

The police have been warning about manipulated ATMs for years - and rightly so. Fraudsters repeatedly rip off their victims in this way. This is also the case in Bochum:

After several attempts at fraud at manipulated ATMs, the police are warning about the perfidious scam.

Perpetrators in Bochum have tried several times in the past few weeks to steal money from unsuspecting bank customers - in some cases with success. To do this, the fraudsters manipulate the self-service machines so that the banknotes get stuck. The customer assumes there is a technical defect. As soon as the ATM is free, the perpetrators take the money.

Prevention tips:

If you receive an error message, always stay at the ATM (ATM). Don't let a supposedly helpful stranger lure you away from the machine. Ask another customer to fetch a bank employee. For ATMs outside of banks, you may need to call the bank using your cell phone.

Notify the police outside the opening hours of banks and credit institutions.
Handle your payment cards carefully and always keep the PIN separate from the card.

The police expressly warn against these fraud attempts. If you notice something suspicious at an ATM, stay on site and notify the bank's employees or the police emergency number 110!
