Rems-Murr-Kreis – A man from the Backnang area recently fell victim to a scam, also known as “love scamming”. He met a woman through a platform. The contact between the two was subsequently maintained intensively.

In order to enable the internet acquaintance “from Turkey” to visit Germany, the gullible man transferred a sum of money for the plane ticket.
After this journey was not made due to an alleged unforeseen difficulty, the man transferred a further amount of money abroad. Because this time too the person was unable to travel due to an alleged serious accident and was asked to make further payments for the upcoming medical treatment, the man filed a complaint for fraud. The police advise you to be particularly careful when dealing with such scams.
What is striking about such contacts is the overly rapid friendship, which is cultivated very intensively with excessive interest in a short space of time and is sometimes covered with expressions of love. The desire to come to Germany, which would usually require a visa, is often pushed by fraudsters. Research the acquaintance's name or email address on the Internet.
Initial insights can often be achieved here. If there is the slightest suspicion, contact should be broken off immediately and rigorously. In order to protect yourself and other friends, your home PC should also be checked for viruses, which are often used by perpetrators. Under no circumstances should you transfer money abroad and, if necessary, seek help. If you suspect anything, back up the data on your PC and report it to the police.
