The Federal Office of Justice reviews the complaint management of social networks

Anyone who reports illegal content to a social network and the social network was unable to delete this content within the prescribed time can now lodge an objection - and how?
From the beginning of 2018, you can report “lame” social media operators to the Federal Office of Justice using a reporting form if they do not respond to violations on the platform that have already been reported.
The Federal Office of Justice announces the following:
Year of issue 2017
Date 12/27/2017
Bonn. The Federal Office of Justice (BfJ) will put a reporting form online at the beginning of 2018 for reports of violations of the Network Enforcement Act. Transition periods applied to social networks until the end of 2017.
For the Network Enforcement Act (NetzDG) covered social networks are obliged to provide effective and transparent complaint management for dealing with illegal content (hate crime and other criminal content) from January 1, 2018.
Users should be able to report illegal content to the social network quickly and easily. The network must immediately acknowledge the complaint received.
Posts that are obviously illegal must be removed or blocked within 24 hours. In all other cases, a deadline of seven days generally applies.
If such a complaint procedure is not provided, is not provided correctly or is not complete, it will be examined BfJwhether a fine procedure should be initiated.
All affected users can do so BfJ inform you that, despite your complaint to the social network, illegal content was neither deleted nor blocked within the stated deadlines. All those affected can submit this information using the online form provided by the Federal Office on its website.

“The form offers citizens a simple and quick way to report NetzDG

explains the President of the Federal Office, Heinz-Josef Friehe.

“However, users must first complain to the respective social network. The Federal Office itself cannot carry out deletions or blocks, but is examining the initiation of fine proceedings due to systemic deficiencies in complaint management.

stresses Friehe.

The reporting form will be available from January 1, 2018 on the website www.bundesjustizamt.de under the path Topics > Citizen Services > Legal Enforcement in Social Networks > Service > Forms.
