To help aspiring creators, influencers, and businesses expand their presence and build community faster, Mark Zuckerberg officially announced on February 19 that Meta Corporation will begin testing a new offering called “Meta Verified.”

“It is a subscription package on Instagram and Facebook that includes a verified badge that authenticates your account with a state ID, proactive account protection, access to account support, and increased visibility and reach,” Meta said on its official website . The company plans to begin a phased test in Australia and New Zealand later this week to learn which account verification features make the most sense, with the goal of “Meta Verified” around the world.

Some of the top requests Meta receives from creators include broader access to verification and account support, as well as more features to increase visibility and reach. Last year, the group developed initial plans to enable access to these functions through a paid offer.

Offer now official – with these features

The Meta Group now has an official list of features that can be purchased through a “Meta Verified” subscription.

The following is included in the user verification package:

  • A verified badge confirming that you are the real you and that the account in question has been authenticated with a government ID.
  • Increase protection against account impersonation with proactive account monitoring for impersonators who may target people with growing online audiences.
  • Corporate help when needed, with access to a real person for general account issues.
  • Increased visibility and reach through prominence in some areas of the platform – such as search, comments and recommendations.
  • Exclusive features “that allow you to express yourself in unique ways.”

“Meta Verified” will be available in New Zealand and Australia from the end of this week

Meta Verified will be available to purchase directly on Instagram or Facebook in Australia and New Zealand for initial accounts later this week. Companies are exempt from the subscription for the time being. Users can get the new verification package for a monthly subscription for $11.99 on the web and $14.99 on iOS and Android.

Meta informs: “As we test and learn, there will be no changes to accounts on Instagram and Facebook that are already verified based on previous requirements, including authenticity and notability.” In the long term, the group wants to build a subscription offering that is valuable for all users, including creators, companies and the community in general. “As part of this vision, we are evolving the meaning of the verification badge so we can expand access to verification and give more people confidence that the accounts they interact with are authentic,” it said.

Build security from the start

To ensure that users' identities and their accounts remain secure from the start, Meta is incorporating a series of checks into its new concept before, during and after someone logs into an account.

Furthermore, there are certain minimum requirements that must be met in order to complete the verification subscription for “Meta Verified”. This includes a minimum age of 18 years, as well as previous postings on the respective account.

“Applicants must then provide a government ID that matches the profile name and photo of the Facebook or Instagram account they are applying for,” explains Meta.

The package also includes proactive monitoring for account impersonation. Accordingly, Meta says it is committed to continuous monitoring and review of reported violations and to taking swift action against those “who attempt to circumvent our systems.”

After the account has been successfully verified, it is no longer possible to change the profile name, user name, date of birth or photo in the profile. In this case, the verification for “Meta Verified” must be carried out again.

Subscription more expensive during the test phase

“Meta Verified” is initially launching in Australia and New Zealand and costs AUD 19.99 on the web and AUD 24.99 on the smartphone or NZD 23.99 on the web and NZD 29.99 on the smartphone. The higher costs for iOS and Android may be based on the commission fees that Apple and Google charge for in-app purchases.
