Apparently our warnings about the fake Microsoft calls are not working. Or the danger is not taken seriously enough. But it is what it is: telephone scammers always do it!

The police informed : Last Saturday, October 9th. Around 10:00 a.m. - and then several times throughout the day - a 66-year-old man from Wadrill received a call in which a male person with a foreign accent pretended to be a Microsoft support employee.

He was told that his computer's functionality was compromised by several computer viruses. They wanted to help him. To do this, however, he must first pay a fee of 100 euros in Google Play cards. He would receive this amount credited later.

The 66-year-old then bought 2 x 50 euro Google Play cards in the Haco shopping center in Wadern. However, when he entered the code number into his computer, he was informed that the code was invalid and that he now needed 200 euros in Google Play cards.

Now the injured party became suspicious and asked a neighbor who is an IT employee. He recommended immediately disconnecting the power supply to the computer in question and immediately contacting the police. The as yet unknown perpetrator had remote access to the victim's computer at any time. The 66-year-old from Wadrill could not explain how this could happen.

Fake Microsoft calls still dangerous!

The police in Wadern and the consumer advice centers are warning again about this brazen scam with fake calls. The scammers' approach is often the same. Victims are usually asked to enter personal information on a website or to pay money in advance.

After the incident, the affected computer should be checked for malware by a computer specialist. To be on the safe side, all passwords and access data for email accounts, online banking and online shops should also be changed.

According to its own statements, Microsoft does not make unsolicited telephone calls to repair defective devices. Assistance is provided almost exclusively via email.

We therefore ask you to take the warning about false Microsoft calls seriously! There are fraudsters behind this who know exactly what they are doing. They always manage to fool people with their arguments.
