It's actually hard to believe that we have to warn you: Don't do the "Milk Crate Challenge" or climb on a stack of wobbly crates!

For years, various challenges have been appearing in social networks, which are sometimes more, but often less, useful. The latter includes the “Milk Crate Challenge”, which apparently even doctors have to warn against - because it is probably not common sense not to climb on a wobbly stack of crates!

The challenge

Under the hashtag #MilkCrateChallenge, there are currently numerous videos on social networks of young people who are mostly mastering this “milk crate challenge” more poorly than well.

A stack of plastic boxes is built, usually in the shape of a pyramid, then someone tries to climb onto this stack and get down safely on the other side - which usually doesn't work.

Totally funny, right? No. It's stupid.

Doctors warn

The Baltimore Health Department, for example, points out that COVID-19 is already increasing hospitalizations across the country, so you should check with your local hospital for free beds before attempting the Milk Crate Challenge.

Shawn Anthony, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, told the Washington Post

“Everyone must do their part to support first responders and healthcare providers, and that includes not participating in challenges like this that place additional strain on the system.”

According to Anthony, colleagues from across the country report in online forums that they have seen challenge participants with a variety of injuries, including shoulder dislocations and rotator cuff tears, ACL and meniscus tears, broken wrists and even spinal injuries.

“It might be worse than falling off a ladder. In the falls I've seen in these videos, it's very difficult to brace yourself. They put their joints at even greater risk of injury.”

The FDA in the USA also recommends drinking a glass of good milk and then returning the boxes to the retailer.
