Asylum center Augsburg? Once again we received requests for a photo showing garbage bags lying haphazardly on the ground in front of bicycle racks.

The photo is said to have been taken in front of an asylum seekers' home in Augsburg. It is shared as a sharepic on Facebook with the addition that “thank God there will soon be no more dirty diesel cars driving through here.”

This is what the sharepic looks like:

...but “thank God” there will soon be no more dirty diesel engines running through here!
Thank you Germany!

The fact check

Some of these pictures with garbage have turned out to be fake in the past (see here ). But this picture is not a fake, this courtyard of an Augsburg refugee accommodation actually existed in this condition. However, the video is not current, but over four years old; it has been circulating since the end of 2014. Exactly when it was made remains unclear.

This picture is currently being distributed again and commented on accordingly. There is also the assumption that right-wing radicals distributed the garbage and filmed it, but it is very unlikely.

Garbage is real

The government of Swabia, which is responsible for accommodating refugees, assumes that the video is real. According to authority spokesman Karl-Heinz Meyer, unfortunately there are always residents who do not follow the rules. Many would not be familiar with waste separation and disposal, as is common here, from their home countries.

To make matters worse, the accommodation, designed for 170 residents, was absolutely overcrowded with 250 residents. Mothers with small children only had one room available, and 7 families shared a kitchen.

In all accommodations, care is always taken to ensure order and cleanliness in collaboration with the residents. In this accommodation there are two caretakers and two residents ensure order as part of community service. This system has proven itself. A later visit showed children playing in a clean yard. Without waste.
