The phone call usually comes as a surprise. Those called are told that they took part in a lottery or competition. However, these are subject to a charge and the contract supposedly concluded runs for one year. In order to end this contract early, you only have to accept a cash on delivery shipment with a cancellation of the subscription. These will be sent to the contract holder shortly.
The recipient must pay 150 euros to accept the cash on delivery shipment. The sender of this cash on delivery shipment is a service company from 20354 Hamburg. Based on the current status of the investigation, it can be assumed that such cash-on-delivery shipments are still in circulation.
This is what happened to a victim in the municipality of Moringen in December 2020 and January 2021. The 80-year-old from a district of Moring was called and written to twice within 4 weeks. He received the cash on delivery shipment and had to pay 150 euros for each. However, thanks to an attentive postal worker, the fraud was discovered. She researched on the Internet and sent the senior to a police station. The Nörten-Hardenberg police station then filed a criminal complaint for fraud.
The police recommend that recipients of such letters refuse to accept them and contact the police.
