For a few hours now, internet users have been receiving a fake “NETFLIX” email.

Apparently, the Netflix account was updated with a newly specified payment method at the customer's request. The Netflix membership was supposedly automatically renewed as a result. The subscription price is now EUR 2.99 per month for 4 devices. The user now has the option of having an email sent to him (for whatever reason?). BUT BE CAREFUL! This email was not sent by Netflix, but by cyber criminals who want to use this nasty scam to get the LOGIN DATA of the respective Netflix account.
As a result, the fraudsters also target the user's credit card information. It is this email:

The email as verbatim:

NETFLIX
payment method changed
Hello, [recipient's email address]
we have updated your account with the new payment method specified as you requested.
Your membership will be automatically renewed for as long as you wish to remain a member. Your new payment method will be used starting with the next billing cycle. Your monthly membership fee will be debited on the first day of each billing cycle. Send me an email
Subscription 4 devices at the same time Subscription price €2.99/month
Update payment information

If you clicked the “Send me an email” button, you would be redirected to a website that looked very similar to Netflix’s.

As a user you should not allow yourself to be deceived here. The user should now log in via this login page. If this were to be done, the login details would end up in the hands of fraudsters. After you have logged in, you will be asked to update your payment information.

Note: This is a so-called phishing!

Netflix itself writes:

In so-called phishing, the attacker poses as a trustworthy website or company in order to obtain your personal data.
Attackers will try everything possible to gain access to your account or steal your personal information.
Among other things, websites are created or emails are sent requesting personal information that appear to come from Netflix. However, Netflix will never ask you for personal information via email. This includes:

  • Payment information (credit card numbers, debit card numbers, account details, PIN number, etc.)
  • Social Security Number for U.S. Citizens (in any form), Identification Number, or Tax Identification Number
  • Your account password

You may receive an email from Netflix with a link to our website and a request to update this information. But be wary of fake emails with a link to phishing websites. If a link in an email seems strange to you, simply hover your cursor over the link. In most programs you will see the actual linked address at the bottom of the screen.
