The Gifhorn police warn of fraudsters who want to cash out using Amazon vouchers. They promise a monetary gain and want something in return.

Previously unknown perpetrators tried to defraud a family from the Gifhorn northern district last week. They promised a profit of 39,500 euros, which was to be paid out on site by security and a lawyer.

In return for delivery fees and the like, Amazon vouchers should be purchased and given to the deliverers, as they are not allowed to accept cash.

This was initially preceded by a telephone survey about insurance. Days later, after an alleged lottery, there was a promise of winnings of 39,500 euros and a scheduled cash handover at the winner's place of residence.

As a result, the gullible cash winner bought Amazon vouchers for 900 euros.

On the day the prize was handed over, he received another call in which the fraudsters wanted to request the voucher codes “as a precaution”.

Fortunately, they ultimately sensed the attempted fraud and did not share the codes. However, the 900 euros in cash were converted into unwanted vouchers.

Points of sale are also advised to handle such sales sensitively, especially when customers buy up entire stocks.
