Smartphone (Android) users have been targeted by internet fraudsters for a long time. At the moment fake “PayPal SMS” are being sent. The sender “PayPal”. But that is NOT the case.

Warning about fake PayPal SMS

Phishing works via SMS in the same way as via the desktop version on a PC. The user receives an SMS that looks like this:

The user is led to believe that suspicious activity has allegedly been detected and that his PayPal account has now been blocked.

The SMS in full:

Dear customer, your account has been blocked due to suspicious activity. Please check your account: http://…..

The user should now check his account. To do this he has to follow a link.

This is what the fake page looks like:

If a user taps on this link, the above page opens. Since it looks deceptively real, the user cannot recognize the counterfeit and if the user reacts with gullibility and transfers his data here, the internet fraudsters have access to the financial transactions of the PayPal user account.

Info for owners of an Android smartphone:

Never trust an unknown SMS. PayPal itself does not send such requests via SMS.
