The claim

A newspaper advertisement states that the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) is looking for extras for demonstrations against the right and protests against deportations.

Our conclusion

This statement is incorrect. It is a hoax that has been circulating on social networks since 2017. The BAMF has made it clear that it was never looking for such extras.

Every now and then a strange advertisement appears on social media that supposedly comes from the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF).

It claims that the BAMF is looking for “extras” for demonstrations against the right and protests against deportations. – Sounds absurd? It is!

Rumors/claims about alleged extra job

The sharepic of the ad appears authentic at first glance, but has a satirical origin. It was published in 2017 by the site “Daily Fake News,” which lists “Satirical Daily News” as its info.

The tweet published at the time with the advert as well as the profile itself have now been deleted .

The satirical context was lost due to the spread on social networks.

Evaluation

The false report was denied several times. When asked, the BAMF denied such a job advertisement:

The Federal Office distances itself from a job advertisement circulating on social media that is looking for extras for a video shoot. This ad is fake. You can find BAMF job offers on our website using the following link .”

In addition, a federal authority like the BAMF would never speak of “minimum wage” in real job advertisements, but would instead be guided by the collective agreements for the public service (TVöD) .

The facts

  • Origin of the claim: The fake ad was originally published as satire, but was not clearly identified as such.
  • Statement from the BAMF: The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees has confirmed that it has never sought extras for demonstrations or similar purposes.
  • Authenticity of the job advertisements: Genuine job advertisements from the BAMF contain specific information and are based on the public service collective agreement.

Conclusion

The job advertisement is not real. The rumor persists on social media, although it has already been refuted several times. It's an example of how satire can be taken out of context and spread as hoax.

We have been reporting on this alleged job advertisement again and again since 2017. You can find our articles on this HERE .
