A video is currently making the rounds showing a child from China who was born with a “human tail”. The child was born in 2013.

This and similar videos are repeatedly posted by users in “groups”.

If you click on the link, expecting to start a film, you will be taken to the website “SG Talk”. This is a forum (Singapore Talk) where, among other things, stocks and finance are discussed.

If you now click on the play button, another website opens called “funuz.com” with lots of “funny” videos.

Instead of the expected film, there is a written commentary in English, which is accompanied by words like “bizarre”, “strange”, “spooky”, etc. Nevertheless, an attempt is made to describe the circumstances truthfully.

The actual video is at the bottom of the page, and some images are commented on here, albeit in Russian.

It is the tethered cord syndrome.

The tethered cord is a congenital malformation of the spinal cord (primary tethered cord). In addition to the primary tethered cord, a distinction is also made between a secondary tethered cord, which can arise either as a result of surgical interventions in the spinal canal or as a result of adhesions following injuries.

The chance of developing it is 1 in 100,000 (the numbers vary from country to country, with China probably having the highest rate of disease) - the result is adhesions that resemble a human tail. Because this extension comes into contact with the spinal cord, neurological disorders can occur.

But it's not just newborns who are affected; this malformation can continue into adulthood.

To correct the deformity, a surgical procedure is carried out with the aim of releasing the attachments of the spinal cord from the surrounding tissue.

There are even more reports (from different years) on this topic online.

Why was this link posted on Facebook?

Certainly not to objectively educate readers about this topic. Presumably more for the reason of attracting visitors to the above-mentioned websites.
