The claim

The Bundeswehr has confirmed the existence of chemtrails and is actively pursuing geoengineering.

Our conclusion

This claim is misleading and is based on a misinterpretation of a Bundeswehr document.

Claims are circulating again on social media that the Bundeswehr has confirmed the existence of chemtrails and is carrying out geoengineering. These assumptions are based on a misinterpretation of a Bundeswehr document. The fact check clarifies what is really behind these claims.

Analysis of the Bundeswehr document

Fact: A “future analysis” by the Bundeswehr Planning Office from November 2012, which can be found on the Bundeswehr homepage, deals with possible security policy aspects of geoengineering methods.

Analysis: The document does not advocate that the Bundeswehr uses geoengineering methods.
It simply recommends that the Bundeswehr should keep an eye on the issue and monitor relevant developments. Source: https://www.bundeswehr.de/resource/blob/140534/0e09f412cb61da2bef8e5279772c31e3/geo-data.pdf

The reality behind chemtrails

Fact: The Federal Environment Agency stated back in 2011 that there is “no scientific evidence” for the existence of chemtrails.

Analysis: Contrails, often incorrectly referred to as chemtrails, form in cold atmospheres as a result of water vapor emissions from aircraft engines.

Misinterpretation by the media

Fact: An article in the “Straßengazette” from 2014 was used as a source for the claim about chemtrails and geoengineering by the Bundeswehr.

Analysis: The “Straßengazette” is known for taking up controversial topics.
In 2013, the blog Ruhrbarone reported on the paper's tendentious reporting on the subject of chemtrails. Source: A little more serious please! | Ruhr barons

Here is the article in a better resolution: strassen-gazette-spraytechnik-both-pages.pdf

The origin of the articles

The website http://Leyline.de mentioned noticeably often in the articles, and this is no coincidence, as the article about chemtrails and spray technology appeared on that site in November 2013 ( see HERE ).

The second article about the Bundeswehr and geoengineering comes from Gabriele Lermann, also the editor of the “Straßen Gazette”. She is not unknown as a conspiracy myth; in another edition of the newspaper (see HERE , PDF file) she writes, for example, about the “AIDS lie”.

The article about chemtrails

The “evidence photo” shows an aircraft from the airline Air Berlin, which went bankrupt AFP asked the airline Austrian Airlines, which took over part of the Air Berlin fleet, what these are for.
AUA spokesman Leonhard Steinmann explained:

“These are drain lines, a safety precaution of the aircraft. In the event of a leaky hydraulic or kerosene line, fluid could accumulate inside the pylon.”

Without these drain lines, hot fluid from leaking hydraulic or kerosene lines could drip onto hot engine parts and cause a fire, but the leaked fluids would be carried through the drain lines to behind the engine.

Carsten Braun, who aircraft technology at the Aachen University of Applied Sciences , adds that these tubes are also used to equalize pressure. It would be logistically impossible to secretly fill these nozzles with any kind of poison, as there are hundreds of employees working on maintaining the aircraft in Frankfurt alone - all of whom would have to remain silent!

Conclusion: No evidence of chemtrails or geoengineering by the Bundeswehr

The evidence clearly shows that there is no solid evidence of the existence of chemtrails and that the Bundeswehr does not engage in geoengineering. These misinterpretations and conspiracy theories underscore the importance of carefully examining information before sharing it.
