Tempers are running high on all social networks. In particular, the sentence “IS is not part of Islam” has caused criticism. Muslims around the world are reacting to the accusations that “all Muslims are somehow criminal” with a photo campaign on Twitter.

There was already this action on Twitter during the attack on the satirical magazine . These were uploaded under #notinmyname.

This action was used again in the current context and these images were used to remind people that they are clearly distancing themselves from the current attacks.

It is estimated that there are 50,000 IS fighters but 1.7 billion Muslims.

Due to the small percentage, one could of course agree with the sentence quoted above. The problem, however, is that those 50,000 extremists misuse the name of a religion and, through their actions, are quite successful in placing all Muslims under general suspicion.

Not in my name

“Not in my name.” All the better is the peaceful photo campaign by Muslims who want to make it clear once again that they distance themselves from terror and IS's extremist understanding of their religion. As mentioned at the beginning, this action comes from the photos that were also uploaded of the attack on Charlie Hebdo and are now seen as a symbol for #notinmyname.

SPONSORED AD

ISIS is not part of Islam? But. It is an extremist outgrowth of Islam, just as the Ku Klux Clan is an extremist outgrowth of Christianity. Distancing yourself from the many Muslims on Twitter is therefore important and necessary. Only simple minds now throw everyone into the same pot.
