An unknown hacker group is said to have compromised hundreds of thousands of Windows computers using leaked NSA software

As 'heise Online' and 'WinFuture' report, unknown hackers are said to have acquired software from the US security agency NSA almost two weeks ago.

The program, called “Doublepulsar,” has been found on over 200,000 Windows devices in the last few days.

The USA, Hong Kong and China are particularly affected by the attacks.

Microsoft had already provided a corresponding patch that was supposed to close the critical SMB gap identified as a gateway in mid-March, but the release of the new NSA software again led to a rapid increase in infections.

Windows computers that are not regularly updated are particularly susceptible to being hijacked quickly.

“Doublepulsar” allows vulnerable Windows devices to be taken over in order to load additional malware. After the tool works without files, the malware is deleted from the device when it restarts, ArsTechnica

Just earlier this month there were reports of leaked CIA software that compromised Windows PCs.
