Danger! The “Hürriyet Global News” account is fake!

Do you know Moritz Hürtgen? Moritz Hürtgen (@hrtgn) is editor of @titanic. And feel free to rename his account. And now he has renamed his account to Hürriyet Global News (EDIT: he has since renamed it back to his original name).

The reason is probably the discussion about Özil, which Hürtgen is currently pushing forward with a fake. This is how Hürtgen launched the “Hürriyet Global News” into the world:

BREAKING: Özil donates match-worn @DFB_Team 2014 world cup final) to AKP
fundraiser

How can you tell that this account is not Hürriyet? Quite simply: by the name @hrtgn, which clearly refers to Moritz Hürtgen ( compare ). The name can be found under the page name on Twitter.

One can certainly assume that Hürtgen once again wanted to entice journalists from various newspapers to take over and distribute this “news” without checking it.

Not the first time!

Hürtgen had recently posed as “hr Tagesgeschehen”, thereby enticing NTV, BILD and the ORF, for example, to produce rapid breaking news.

With these false reports, Hürtgen probably wants to tell the journalists that they should work more thoroughly. It's probably also a balancing act between satire and fake, because for satire it's almost a bit flat. It was more of a deliberately created fake to mislead superficial journalism.

By the way

On Twitter, you should ALWAYS pay attention to the Twitter username that begins with the @. This can be changed, but you will lose verification if you change the username. (Thanks to Marc Krüger at this point).
