The Rhineland-Palatinate consumer advice center warns against unauthorized calls from Pflegeservice Smart.

The company offers households with people in need of care support in applying for benefits from the nursing care insurance fund. Even if the offer was rejected over the phone, those affected will receive an order confirmation shortly afterwards and will have to pay a service fee of 129 euros.

The consumer advice center advises not to pay the fee and to report the unauthorized calls to the Federal Network Agency.

“The process is always similar,” says Silke Lachenmaier, lawyer at the Rhineland-Palatinate Consumer Center. “Those affected are addressed by name on the phone. It is usually known that there is a person in need of care living in the household.”
