The “login with new device” scam
In the message, the criminals claim that your account was accessed using a new device. If you weren't, you'll need to log in using a link sent along to protect your account. Warning: Criminals try to gain access to your account this way. Our Watchlist Internet partners warn!
If you are not addressed personally, that is a red flag. This is one of our tips for detecting fraudulent phishing messages. However, criminals are currently sending emails in the name of BAWAG by not addressing you with your name, but at least with your email address. With this personalization, the criminals want to appear particularly trustworthy.

All of these emails ask you to click on a link. This will take you to a page that looks very similar to the BAWAG login page. But be careful! If you log in via this site, your login details will end up directly in the hands of criminals. This gives them access to your bank account!
How can you debunk such emails?
- Personal salutation: Even though these emails are personalized, you will not be addressed by your name. to be addressed by your bank as "Dear [email protected]
- Note the sender: Pay attention to the sender address of the message. You can often see here that the message does not come from BAWAG because the email address has nothing to do with the company.
- Dubious link: Before you click on a link in an email, you should make sure that it is legitimate. To do this, hover your mouse over the link. This way you can see which website is behind it. Emails from BAWAG only contain the following links: bawag.at, easybank.at or paylife.at. In general, we recommend that you log into your online banking as usual and not via links in an email.
- Contact the company directly: If you are unsure, contact the company in question and ask. You can also forward fraudulent BAWAG messages to [email protected] .
