Over the years, we have seen some really sophisticated phishing emails that have made extremely sophisticated attempts to get users' passwords. However, this is not one of them: A “FINAL WARNING” as the subject is intended to force you to log in to a fake site with your GMX account. But the data then goes to fraudsters.

This is what the email looks like:

The fake GMX email
The fake GMX email

Already in the header of the email you can see from the sender (red arrow) that the email does not come from GMX, but from a provider called “Gmailvn”, which is registered .
The salutation is not personal, just general “Dear User”. The subject line reads ominously: “FINAL WARNING: Update your GMX account today.” The content of the email:

“Your email account is not currently being updated.
Update your account to avoid having your email account closed. To update your email account, click Update Email”

However, the link does not lead to the real GMX page, but to a rather clumsy login page:

The recreated login page
The recreated login page

If you enter your real data there (of course we used fantasy data), you will get the succinct message that the update was successful - which is true in principle, because the fraudsters now have the current login data for the GMX account and can use it abuse!

We have of course reported the site to the host. However, it can be assumed that the fraudsters will register additional sites in order to be able to continue the phishing scam.

Also interesting:
This type of fraud is not new on Facebook and after 11 years of Mimikama it is no longer understandable why Facebook cannot get this problem under control and finally put a stop to such fraudsters!
Scammers pose as Facebook and want to crack your profile and page
